About event
Start of 1st show: 6:30 p.m.
Start of 2nd show: 9 p.m.
What is soul? A rousing style of music, some say. An overwhelming feeling, say others. It is what makes us unique, says the English dictionaries. Each of these definitions applies to the Matti Klein Soul Trio, but the latter describes the essence of the three-piece team founded in 2017 particularly well.
Because in the Matti Klein Soul Trio, three soulmates have come together in the name of the groove, taking an independent path beyond the much-danced paths of the Hammond organ trios. At the center of the sound are the warm Wurlitzer sounds of bandleader Matti Klein, who has already graced the most important jazz clubs in New York, Tokyo, London and Paris with the funk jazz formation Mo' Blow and the Brazilian yacht-pop heavyweight Ed Motta.
Press quotes:
"A really good album by keyboards player Matti Klein. I was really taken with this record and in fact I was gonna play it as my favorite track of the week." Robert Elms - BBC London
"Soul Trio is an authentic album drawing on vintage instruments with a 21st century attitude." Thomas Fletcher - Jazz Journal UK
"He plays brilliantly and at the same time relaxed, letting the melodies sparkle and the harmonies work." Judith Schnaubelt – Bayrischer Rundfunk
“An epic beauty that is second to none.” Victoriah Szirmai - JAZZTHETIK
“It grooves incredibly (...) like it once did in the best days of soul under the Tamla/Motown sails.”
Thorsten Bednarz - Deutschlandfunk Kultur
Cast:
Wurlitzer, Rhodes Bass: Matti Klein
Bass clarinet, saxophone: Lars Zander
Percussion: André Seidel
