About event

It is a great honor for us that the Slovak jazz legend Matúš Jakabčic with his Big Band will play a concert in support of the Hogo Fogo Jazz & Art Club.

As the Hogo Fogo club has been operating and working honestly for more than a year without any institutional support - support that is essential for the development of young artists and bands, to whom we give a lot of space – we are extremely grateful for every gesture of solidarity and belonging. Thank you, we greatly appreciate it.

A large jazz orchestra playing original compositions and collaborating with domestic and foreign soloists is a rarity in Slovak conditions. The ensemble, led by guitarist, composer and arranger Matúš Jakabčić, presented itself to the public for the first time in 2004 at the Czechoslovak Jazz Festival in
Přerov.

During the past years, it performed at almost all major festivals as well as individual concerts in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He also gave concerts in Serbia (festivals in Novi Sad and Valjevo) and in Austria (ORF Radiokulturhaus, Vienna's Porgy & Bess, Graz, Jazz& Wine festival in Poysdorf). large jazz orchestras rich experience; in other years, Ádám Gráf is also a permanent member of the orchestra as the 1st trumpet, a long-time member of the Hungarian ensembles Modern Art Orchestra and Budapest Jazz Orchestra.

Another member of the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, trumpeter Zoltán Bacsa, will be a stand-in at the concerts in October. The focus of the big band's repertoire is the compositions of M. Jakabčić, as well as his original arrangements of well-known jazz standards.

Since 2010, its program has been enriched with compositions from the
"Blázni z Chelmu" project, in which, in addition to M. Jakabčić, Erik Rothenstein also participates, as well as compositions by other authors - members of the orchestra (Michal Motýľ, Lukáš Oravec, Ľuboš Šrámek, Erik Rothenstein).

The orchestra also has Ellington/Strayhorn's "The Nutcracker Suite" in its repertoire - Ellington and Strayhorn's arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. The penultimate 2-CD of the orchestra called Room # 555 won the Esprit prize and the Radio Head Awards 2022.

The latest CD called A Day Off, which was released in
September 2025, is authored not only by Jakabčić, but also by Sisa Michalidesová and Ľuboš Šrámek.

On the concerts will feature songs from the latest CD A Day Off and from the award-winning 2-CD Room # 555.

The concert was publicly supported by the Art Support Fund. The creation of the musical works that will be performed at the concerts was supported by the Art Support Fund from public sources.
