The legendary trash metal band Megadeth, which together with The Cult and Metallica also performed in Bratislava in 1993, will release its seventeenth and supposedly last studio album entitled Megadeth on January 23, 2026, and will subsequently embark on a worldwide tour. farewell tour. However, according to the founder of the band, singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine, the tour will last three to five years, so fans will have plenty of time to say goodbye. On the contrary, the new documentary Megadeth: Behind the Mask will be shown in a thousand cinemas in 36 countries in just a few days. According to Mustain, right now is the right moment to introduce the new album to fans exclusively a day before it gets into their hands through this film, but also to look back on the band's forty-year history. In the film, Dave Mustaine uncovers some hitherto untold stories from the past and looks at the creative energy that has driven the band forward for decades. During the screening, all the songs from the new album will be played and each of them will be accompanied by a commentary by Mustain or the band. The recording took place between 2024 and 2025, and according to the band, it will be a return to the roots - the aggressive, technically precise thrash metal that Megadeth made famous in the 80s. Finnish guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, who joined the lineup in 2023 after the departure of Kiko Loureiro, will appear on the album for the first time. As Dave Mustaine stated in a recent interview: "This album isn't about the end - it's about the legacy. Megadeth ends where it all began: pure thrash metal. Megadeth is the best album we've recorded in decades."
