About event
"Mekons are the most revolutionary group in the history of rock'n'roll" (Lester Bangs)
Sound adventurers, punk rock fundamentalists and volunteer outcasts. Genre -in -the -class Mekons group was founded in 1977 in Leeds, England. They were born on the emerging British punk scene and from art students without musical abilities became fertile and noisy offspring Hank Williams. Mekons arrive in: Jon Langford, Lu Edmonds, Tom Greenhalgh, Sally Timms, Steve Goulding, Susie Honeyman, Rico Bell and Dave Trumpio. At that time, her series expanded, among other things, multi -instrumentalist Lu Edmonds, member of the famous public Image Ltd. Or the well -known trio Les Triaboliques with Justin Adams and Ben Mandelson. A characteristic element of the band is a surprising and inspiring grip of folk and country music with occasional trips to the world of fine arts. Their stunning production consistently wipes the boundaries between high and low art and includes exhibitions in the UK and the US, a deranged pirate musical recorded and staged with Kathy Acker, artistic performance with Vit Acconci and several books including a unique art catalog/unfinished Mekons United. A documentary film about the band called Revenge of the Mekons has seen a national release in 2015 at Music Box Films. Mekons continues to create bold, unpredictable music and at the same time remain faithful to punk ethos. At the end of 2024 the band will publish the first single from the new album, which will be released next year. Music full of joy, straddled over all genres and styles, bold lyrics, full of puns, life stories, sound paintings and good advice. Waltz, Country, Rock'n´roll, Chanson, Blues, Ploužák and Rap. Fundamentalists and Voluntary Pariahs. The Genre-Defying Band Mekons Was Formed in 1977 in Leeds, England. They Were Born Into The Emerging British Punk Scene and Went From Art Students with No Musical Ability to Plicic and Noisy Offspring of Hank Williams. The Mekons Arrive with Jon Langford, Lu Edmonds, Tom Greenhalgh, Sally Timms, Steve Goulding, Susie Honeyman, Rico Bell and Dave Trumpi. Friends.
