The program will include inspiring lectures on the topic:
The legacy of the Slovak National Uprising - a never-ending struggle? / Radoslav Ragač
Slovak National Uprising in Art / Alexandra Kusá
Jozef Jablonický Memorial / Jaroslav Kyša
Personal commitment / to the person of Jozef Jablonický
The Slovak National Uprising is one of those events whose memory unites our society - we have respect for those who decided to participate in it in the name of freedom and risked everything. Part of the monument to this event is also the work of Jozef Jablonický, who persistently and professionally presented the history of the uprising without myths and legends. He also followed his convictions honestly and consistently regardless of the consequences. Today, this important historian does not even have a commemorative plaque in Slovakia.
Last year, Ondrej Lunter made a personal commitment on behalf of all of us to the 81st anniversary of the SNP, to contribute to the realization of a memorial place that will honorably commemorate the personality and work of Jozef Jablonický. He entrusted the preparation to the curator Alexandra Kusú, who approached the multimedia artist Jaroslav Kyša. Together, in cooperation with monuments and historians, they are working on a work that symbolically processes Jablonické's legacy and updates the historical form of the bust, which will be installed in the public space of Banská Bystrica, in the light of contemporary art.
For the anniversary of liberation, we have prepared a countdown of this task - three short lectures - three inspiring contributions to the topic.
The legacy of the Slovak National Uprising - a never-ending struggle? / Radoslav Ragač
In our history, there have been repeated attempts to appropriate the Slovak National Uprising, to suppress free scientific research or to trivialize or directly negate its historical significance for ideological reasons. Ideologically unsuitable personalities and events gradually disappeared from its historical picture, books with "objectionable" content were scrapped. During the lecture, we will use specific examples to explain how
the legacy of the SNP was deformed and reinterpreted -- from the shameless communist appropriation of the uprising on the one hand to the (neo)people's exile on the other, which perceived it as a coup and "national betrayal". from the end of the war, through communist propaganda to those examples that will forever remain a part of the culture of the best that we have created in Slovakia.
Jozef Jablonický Memorial / Jaroslav Kyša
The sculptor and multimedia artist will present an upcoming work dedicated to the legacy of Jozef Jablonický, explain his thought process and the expected final form of the work, and place it all in the context of his creation.
