Meshtastic is an open-source off-grid decentralized mesh network that runs on low-cost low-power devices allowing anybody to communicate with (or control) devices from miles away. Meshtastic has applications in emergency communication (disaster resilience), for monitoring sensors (proximal and remote), and for encrypted chat within a personal network.
Come learn about lora and the basic ideas and building blocks of creating a mesh network, of applications, and current limitations, of the various device options including that exist and how to build your own.
We will teach you how to build, set up, and customize your own Meshtastic device and node, and then experiment with these together. We will discuss how to deploy it for the various specific applications, and how to join larger local mesh networks.
Materials: We will provide kits to build a node. Parts cost about $50. We have a few sponsored kits available.
If you would like to learn about meshtastic and how to use it but do not need to build your own node or alreayd have one, please send email to [email protected] and you can get a significant discount for the workshop.
Prerequisites: All are welcome.
