About event
Observatory and Planetarium Brno in cooperation with the Institute of Instrumentation Technology AS CR http://www.isibrno.cz/cs and the Institute of Physics of Materials AV CR https://www.ipm.cz/ He cordially invites you to International Quantum Physics Day 2025. The afternoon program (16:30 - 18:00) will belong not only to adults but also to children who will try simple experiments showing quantum phenomena in technologies that have become part of our everyday life.
from 18:00 will be in the hall of the large planetarium followed by professional popularization lectures.
----------
Interactive exhibits on which scientists from the Institute of Institute of Institute of ASCR (ÚPT) and the Institute of Physics and Materials of the ASCR (ÚFM) will show you and visitors will try attempts showing quantum phenomena in technologies that have become part of our lives. Quantum phenomena are used at the level of atoms, so we cannot directly observe them with the simple eye. They are reflected in the interaction of elemental particles with light. It was these phenomena in the 19th century by scientists who were unable to explain with classical physics, and so the foundations for quantum physics arose.
and what samples from the world of science are we prepared for you? Href = "https://www.isibrno.cz/cs"> https://www.isibrno.cz/cs will show you how to determine the content of the closed bottle using laser light. At the next post, they will introduce you to the foundations of cryogenica and show attempts in which they freeze! And why? Most of our atmosphere are gaseous nitrogen, which, when cooling to temperatures around -200 ° C liquefied and can then be used to reveal surprising quantum phenomena that would remain hidden at room temperature. And that's not all! Colleagues from ÚFM https://www.ipm.cz/ will take you to the fascinating world of material research. For example, you will find why some components always burst in the same place. So come, you will not be bored!

18:00-20:00 (Hall of the Great Planetarium, Entry 150 CZK)
Mgr. Martin Friák, Ph.D. They promise such a high computing performance that one cannot even imagine it. For the development of new materials for green technologies, such as lighter batteries for electric vehicles, or better solar panels, or to understand the processes in our body and the development of new drugs, even the most powerful supercomputers today are not enough. Quantum computers use quantum phenomena that are common in the world of atoms and molecules, but for humans they may appear more like spells. Is it like to exist in two places at the same time? Or be with something (someone ;-) linked by quantum bond calmly across the universe? Or create parallel universes like on a treadmill? All of this is happening on quantum computers ...
Petr Zapletal, Ph.D.
Friedrich-alexander-universität Erlangen-nürnberg, Germany https://www.fau.de/ Superposition in action: from Schrödinger's cat to quantum computers "
Imagine a cat, which is also alive and dead - it sounds like nonsense? Yet this paradox, known as Schrödinger's cat, is an illustration of one of the most important principles of quantum physics - quantum superposition. In this popular-naughty lecture, we will explain what quantum superposition means and how it affects the behavior of elemental particles (eg electrons). Together, we will look at how quantum computers use quantum superposition to speed up certain calculations compared to classic computers. We will talk about the current state of the development of quantum computers and also briefly mention their possible practical applications - from simulation of new materials to the decryption of keys that are out of the range of classic computers.
