About event
Fujara and organ. Two instruments, two worlds, one church.
In the Piaristic Church of St. František Xaverský's premiere compositions will be performed, created on the border between folk music and experimental improvisation. In their collaboration, fujarist and composer Michaela Antalová and organist and improviser Štefan Szabó are based on the possibilities and limitations of the mechanical organ from 1893 - and they also deliberately work with sounds that we usually try to overlook: the breathing of organ pipes, rhythmic creaks, silence between notes.
Their joint journey began with a residency and a concert at the Starry Nights 2025 festival, where performed in a trio with singer Adela Mede. Now they are coming up with new compositions written directly for this space.
Michaela Antalová is a Slovak fujarist, drummer and composer living in Oslo, Norway. She is the founder of the experimental indie band Mikoo, and her works have been performed by ensembles such as Ensemble Modern and Orkester Berg. Štefan Szabó comes from Rimavská Sobota and works as a composer, improviser and curator. He released the organ album Clouds and Pulses and for five years he has curated the music program of the N festival. Piarist Church, Trenčín

Fujara and organ. Two instruments, two worlds, one church.
At the St. Francis Xavier Piarist Church, audiences will hear premiere compositions created at the intersection of folk music and experimental improvisation. Fujara player and composer Michaela Antalová and organist and improviser Štefan Szabó draw inspiration from both the possibilities and limitations of the church's mechanical organ dating back to 1893. They deliberately work with sounds that are often overlooked: the breathing of organ pipes, rhythmic creaking, and the silence between notes.
Their collaboration began with an artistic residency and performance at the Hviezdne noci Festival 2025, where they performed as a trio with singer Adela Mede. Now they return with new compositions written specifically for this unique space.
