About event

We cordially invite you to Vašulka Kitchen Brno for the opening of the exhibition The Metabolising Analogue by artist Michaela Davidová. It will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 6 p.m. in the House of Gentlemen from Kunštát.

Michaela Davidová's exhibition on the border between artistic research and procedural creation is an example of an approach to environmental photography. The author examines alternative analogue photographic procedures in connection with the digestive metabolic processes of organisms. Filamentous fungi and root systems penetrate the bowels of the photograph; they nibble and break down its substance. Matter and energy transformation and relationships between materials, human and non-human, show the possibilities of ecological and post-humanist thinking in photographic practice.

Michaela Davidová (*1988) is an artist and researcher from Ostrava who lives today and creates in Tilburg, the Netherlands. She graduated in the Bachelor of Art and Craft, Artist, Designer: Maker in Cardiff (UK) and the Master of Arts and Science in Ecology Futures in Den Bosch (NL). Among other things, she works as a lecturer for workshops on alternative photographic processes, is the coordinator of the bio art [MI] Lab at CARADT and co-curator of projects at the SEA Foundation in Tilburg. She collaborates with and supports the community collective Sustainable Darkroom (UK) and is also a member of the film laboratory Filmwerkplaats in Rotterdam.

The Center for New Media Art – Vašulka Kitchen Brno cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition Michaela Davidová: The Metabolising Analogue on Tuesday, 10 December 2024 at 6 PM at the House of the Lords of Kunštát.

Works presented in Michaela Davidová's exhibition manifest an approach to environmental photography balancing on the border between artistic research and procedural creation. Davidová explores alternative analogue photographic processes in the context of the digestive metabolic processes of organisms. Filamentous fungi and root systems infiltrate the bowels of photography, nibbling and decomposing its matter. Substance, energy transformation, and the relationships between materials and human and non-human entities reveal possibilities of ecological and posthumanistic thought within photographic practice.
