About event
Do you know what a forest, a piece of urban greenery, a handful of soil, fresh air or organisms invisible to the naked eye have in common with the health of our body? 👀
We invite you to the creative workshop Microbial Futures Lab, which will be guided by our resident, Hungarian artist, Eva Bubla, and where we will seek answers to this (and other questions).
< br/>🗣 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Microbial Futures Lab is a traveling laboratory with an ever-expanding collection of future drugs, treatments, procedures and stories reflecting on the well-being of humans and non-human life forms. It works with the fact that all forms are interconnected through microbial ecosystems. The living and breathing habitats of tiny organisms of cities and water bodies, air, soil, as well as our own human bodies are so inseparable.
In the workshop we will think about how we imagine the medicines of the future in a world where the environment and our current relationship with it threatened? What speculative visions of the future, old-new rituals or treatment procedures can we imagine if we look at the concept of health with a holistic approach and understand it as the mutual well-being of symbiotically living human and superhuman life forms?
In the beginning of the workshop, together with Eva, we will show the key elements that the laboratory hides in its collection, e.g. closed landscape sections, reserved breathing zones, procedures for the care of urban and freshwater environments. He will also introduce us to his not only human patients and the stories associated with them. Subsequently, we will speculate about the future of Košice through our own not only human patients, for whom we will look for a suitable treatment or procedure by designing new means for the various forms of life that inhabit them.
The project is based on collaboration with researchers from the Microbial Childhood Collaboratory (MCC) at the University of Tampere in Finland.

What do a handful of soil, the forest, city greens, fresh air, or some invisible creatures have to do with the health of our bodies? 👀
We invite you to spend the November evening at Šopa gallery for a creative workshop, which will be guided by Hungarian artist Eva Bubla.
Microbial Futures Lab is a traveling laboratory , a constantly expanding collection of future medicines, treatments, rites and narratives reflecting on the well-being of human and more-than-human life forms. All bodies are interconnected microbial ecosystems, living and breathing habitats of tiny organisms: bodies of cities, bodies of waters, air, soil, and our own human bodies are inseparable.
How can we imagine the medicines of the future in a world where the state of our environment and our present relationship with it is compromised? What speculative visions of the future, old-new rites and treatments can we imagine if we look at the concept of health in a holistic way, if we understand it as the mutual well-being of symbiotically living human and more-than-human lifeforms ?
During the workshop, the Lab showcases the key elements of its collection (eg. encapsulated landscapes, designated breathing zones, freshwater and urban body treatments), it's more-than-human patients and stories related to them, and invites the public to speculate together about the future of Kosice by designing new remedies for the various life forms that inhabit it.
The project is rooted in the collaboration with the researchers of the Microbial Childhood Collaboratory (MCC) at Tampere University, Finland.
