About event
Archaeological research of Holíč Šibenice is one of the first targeted research of its kind in Slovakia. The theme of executions and the cities of the implementation of the death penalty is so far only marginally examined in our territory. The research confirmed the existence of a simple brick gallows with two supporting columns and also brought significant findings of human skeletal remains. These discoveries extend knowledge of the form of the exercise of criminal law and types of gallows not only in the territory of today's Slovakia, but also in the wider context of the former Hungarian Kingdom. Interesting results were also brought by findings from the Second World War, which enables the comparison of the archaeological evidence of modern military artifacts with written sources. The lecture will bring this knowledge to the public and offer a view of important but often overlooked place of sin, crime and justice. Daniel Bešina, PhD., And doc. PhDr. Stanislav Bönde Gogová, PhD., From the Department of Archeology of the Faculty of Arts of the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.
