About event

📖 One small apartment, six children, a dog, a cat and dreams of holidays by the sea... Meet the Stramer family! ✨

The Shalom Chaverim Festival 2026 cordially invites you to an exceptional literary evening! Internationally renowned Polish writer Mikołaj Łoziński will visit Bratislava to personally present his successful multi-generational novel Stramer.

🕰️ We will be transported to interwar Polish Galicia - directly to the poor part of Tarnow. There unfolds the fascinating story of Nathan, who returned from distant America out of love for Rywka. Although the ten-member family lives in the cramped conditions of a one-room apartment, their life is an example of steadfastness, dreams and the magical intermingling of cultures, nations and religions that shaped the world at that time.

In the evening, moderator Michal Hvorecký will guide us. You can look forward to an in-depth debate about the work, which has also received a theatrical adaptation due to its success. We will also remember the mastery of the translator Karol Chmel, for whom the Slovak translation of this novel was one of his last works.

* 📅 When: September 8, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
* 📍 Where: Pistori Palace, Bratislava
* 🗣️ Language: In Polish with secured interpretation into Slovak

Come and listen to a powerful story about love, family and a time that must not be forgotten. We look forward to seeing you! 💙

The event is part of the Shalom Chaverim festival and takes place with the kind support of the Central Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Slovakia, the Polish Institute in Bratislava, the Old Town - Bratislava and in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house.
