About event

We invite you to the last educational event in 2024, which will take place online as part of the Microscope project - a platform for microinterval music.

Hans-Gunter Lock accepted our invitation.
This German composer working in Estonia for a long time deals with research and practice of alternative tonal systems. His domain is Bohlen–Pierce tunings – an octaveless tuning that has its formal octave at the duodecim (3/1). This interval is divided into 13 steps either equally divided or divided using natural intervals. 22edo – his second domain and it is a tuning where the octave is divided into 22 equal steps of 54.54 cents. When comparing BP and 22edo, we get into areas that sound significantly different from traditional tunings. Hans-Gunter examines them not only as a composer, but also as a performer on the violin and can therefore also give a practical insight into their playing. The three-year project of the Estonian Association of Arnold Schönberg was also focused on the 22edo temperature, for which many compositions in 22edo were created, which were then sung or played on instruments.

Date: 19.12.2024 at 7:00 p.m.
Place: via online link (ZOOM), which we will publish just before the event.
