Medea's Children: the absurd and blood-soaked tragedies of adult life seen through the eyes of children - a small history of theater and a school of life as cruel as it is poetic.

In the production of Medea's Children, Milo Rau brings a new, deep perspective on the role of children in the theater. The starting point is a real crime case: that of a mother who, in utter desperation, decides to kill her children and take her own life - but survives. This modern tragedy is intertwined with the classic tragedy of Medea, the most famous case of relationship conflict and infanticide in Western literature.

A group of children take this bloody criminal case and perhaps the darkest story of European culture as an opportunity to reflect on themselves: on family history, first love and first encounter with death, longings for the future and fears of the end of the world , which haunts us all. How does a child cope with the divorce of his parents? With injustice, the breakup of friendships, pressure at school? How does he cope with the radical power of Medea—with tragedy in general? Children who were condemned to silence in classic tragedies will finally get to speak this time.

❗ WARNING: The performance contains scenes directly or indirectly referring to suicide and depicting violence against children, and scenes with fake blood . Suitable for audiences aged 16+.

Concept and direction: Milo Rau
Dramaturgy: Kaatje De Geest

Performers: Peter Seynaeve / Lien Wildemeersch, Anna Matthys / Juliette Debackere, Emma Van de Casteele / Ella Brennan, Jade Versluys / Bernice Van Walleghem, Gabriël El Houari / Aiko Benaouisse, Sanne De Waele / Helena Van de Casteele, Vik Neirinck / Elias Maes
