Betrug der Allamoda (The Fraud of Allamoda) in Prague 1660. About interdisciplinary research into one of the most significant theatrical events of the second half 17th century in our territory
In 1660, the play Betrug der Allamoda, written by the Viennese-Prague Barnabite preacher Costanza Arzonni, was performed twice in the Martinique Palace in Hradčany in front of an aristocratic audience in honor of the host, the supreme burgrave Bernard Ignác of Martinique. Thanks to countless connections with professional drama of Italian, English and German provenance, as well as surviving engravings based on Fabián Václav Harovník's scenic decorations, this play has become one of the most discovered stage works of the second half. 17th century, which was also preserved in full German. As part of the research activities of the IDU Cabinet for the Study of Czech Theater and under the leadership of Alena Jakubcová, an interdisciplinary and international project was implemented, which tried to comprehensively process and place not only the text itself, but also the entire theatrical event, or the entire theater culture of that time, which in its importance crossed the borders of the Czech countries. The contribution will present what this research, supported by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, has brought about and will give an insight into the gears of interdisciplinary cooperation between historians of theatre, art, architecture and early modern society. The resulting bilingual monograph, which emerged from the mentioned research, will also be presented.
