We don't write, but we discuss! You can also spend three mornings thinking about theater at this year's Touches and Connections festival with us.
🔵 Wednesday, June 24, 2026 11:00 a.m. – MLOKtalk: Theater and dramaturgy ⚫
On the one hand, growing authoritarian tendencies and political pressures, on the other hand, economic uncertainty, grant dependency and the audience ready to cancel the production even before the premiere - ideally in the comments under status. Should the theater have the right to comment on everything? And if so, who is responsible for the consequences? Where does dramaturgy end and activism begin today? And can the upcoming European Act on Artistic Freedom realistically protect creation from political interference? A discussion about whether theater still has the ambition to name reality. And whether society will still allow him.

What is the role of the theater in the life of the city? What is the relationship between a theater established by a higher territorial entity and the city in which it is based? Is it important for the city that it not only houses the theater building, but also the members of the troupe? And what about the relationship between the city and the independent cultural center? Does cooperation between established and non-established theaters work?
They will discuss with the moderator Miro Zwiefelhofer:

What is the current state of Slovak theater festivals? What is their significance for the theater community and what for the population of the city in which they take place? Will they survive the disruption of the Fund for the Support of the Arts? Do they compete with each other or is there solidarity between the organizers?
They will discuss with moderator Martina Mašlárová:
