Mo Dotti in Toekomstmuziek

Mo Dotti's debut album 'Opaque' is a fine example of atmospheric punk: a mix of Dinosaur Jr.-like noise and sweet, Sunday-worthy melodies. The Los Angeles foursome builds on the glow-in-the-dark fuzz of the 'Blurring' EP and the psychedelic pastiche of 'Guided Imagery'. The album showcases a band that bends abstract washes of sound around pop hooks that reach for the stars. Mo Dotti is just as formidable live: they opened for Otoboke Beaver and were invited by shoegazers Nothing at the Slide Away Festival. You can hear that tension on 'Opaque', which combines the broad intensity of early Ride EPs with the biting beauty of My Bloody Valentine during 'Isn't Anything'. What brings it all together are the songs themselves, the element that distinguishes Mo Dotti in the dream pop landscape.
