About event
The Karolinum publishing house invites you to an evening dedicated to the Modern Slovak Classics edition, which presents key works of Slovak literature of the 19th and 20th centuries in English translations.
Julia Sherwood, a translator and one of the initiators of the Modern Slovak Classics edition, and Martin Janeček and Michael Stein from the Karolinum Publishing House will talk about the creation and concept of the edition, the international reception of Slovak literature and translation challenges.
It will mainly be about authors such as Ján Rozner, Alfonz Bednár or Leopold Lahola, whose new English translations were published in 2024 and 2025.
The discussion will be moderated by literary scholar Peter Darovec.
We look forward to seeing you!
