About event
PhDr. Věra Vostřelová, Ph.D. The process of Czech national emancipation culminates and confident Czech art opens more to the Western world. On the other hand, German artists in the Czech Republic, belonging to the wide German cultural circle, are still beginning to realize their distinctive identity. They compete with Czech colleagues who are the first to be included in the international development of modernism, but at the same time their own peculiarity and belonging to the cultural tradition of the Czech land is important for their work. How did these incompatible intentions have manifested themselves in architectural production at that time? It is not, but this view distorted by our efforts to watch in Czech art primarily manifestations of modernity, while in the art of Czech Germans we notice mainly documents of nationalism and traditionalism? The task of the lecture is not to assess how modern the creation of Czech -German architects was modern. Rather, the aim is to present it as an integral part of contemporary European discourse. We want to show that its traditionalism did not have to become a national intention, but an effort to return to pre -industrial simplicity, simplicity and nature. Modern architecture of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries had a double face: it turned to the roots and natural domestic tradition, as well as monitoring the needs of the new era.
