About event

In 2026, we are commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács, a historical event that represented one of the key turning points not only in the history of Hungary, but also of the whole of Central Europe. On the occasion of this jubilee, our museum organizes expert lectures as part of the More than a Neighbor – Hungarian Cultural Week in Bratislava event, the aim of which is to approach the heritage of Mohács from new perspectives: from the military and political consequences of the battle to the cultural and ideological connections of the Ottoman-Christian relations of the time. Both lectures strive to offer a more comprehensive view of the complex historical processes of the beginning of the 16th century and rethink the place of Mohács in our common historical memory.

Attila Kovács's lecture "Behind the Golden Apple: How the Christian West was Perceived in the Ottoman Empire" explores the historical relationship between the "East" and the "West" from a new perspective: it does not ask how Europe viewed the "Orient", but what image of the West existed in the Muslim world. Focusing on Ottoman political thought, cultural contacts and historical stereotypes, the lecture will debunk simplistic narratives about the relationship between these two worlds.
The lecture is in Hungarian.

The lecture by Karol Koloman Kulašik is entitled "Mohác 1526 – the battlefield that determined the historical development of Hungary and Europe". The content of the lecture focuses on the battlefield itself, the tactical maneuvers of both armies, the immediate consequences of the battle, as well as the assessment of its importance in European history.
The lecture is held in Slovak.

We look forward to seeing you!
