About event
Monika Hniková/Unetanneh Tokef
Opening: 4. 6. 6. It paints with rut oil images from its nature variable and creates objects reflecting the mechanism of the machine. The processual painting of the shapes associating clouds in installations combines with gypsum reliefs, recording matrices of physico-chemical events. The stain from ruting oil, where the pigment is charcoal, freely travels on canvas or permeates plaster mass, surprises with a range of colored nuances. It uses the possibility to install image forms on different height floors of architecture, highlight the topic of recording and variability in the passage of time, the opportunity of perspective from a different perspective. The installation conceives as an organic part of the synagogue, forming one whole with architecture. It creates a space for a metaphorical expression of the reciprocity of human life and natural processes: a man "as a shadow that ignites, like a cloud that dissolves", "like grass that defects, like a flower that breaks down" (from Unetanneh Tokef). The seemingly accurate outlines of the resulting installation actually carry other solutions, a long consideration of different options. They are a temporary shape that has crystallized from meetings of processes of various kinds. Thinking about the creative entry into the forms precisely defined by the original purpose, the interaction of faith and direct experience, about everyday life, surrender of being. "Between clay and clouds" (MH).
The curator of the exhibition is Iva Mladičová. Together with the percussionist Antonín Procházka and double bass player Petr Tichý, they offer a program in the Palmovka synagogue, transforming Monica's creation into sound elements. Three parts of the concert are based on three
oil paintings on gypsum plates. The sound of organ pipes on which the musicians [together with their instruments] play are like engine oil and Monika "dissolves" it behind the mixing counter into space. It monitors and shapes its chemical-physical reactions, similar to working with oils on various materials. [Sometimes it splits fast, sometimes slowly. Monika has these processes in a matter of days, week or months to observe his own work. In the musical abbreviation, the properties of these changes can be reflected in the sound.] The main motifs will be the space and time of change. s.r.o.
