Mono vs. Polyglot (Brno)
Event by: STRV Meetups
Location: STRV, Přízova 1, Brno-střed
About event
Join us for an evening where we will have our take on the following question: **Should backend engineers embrace multiple languages, or is sticking to one the smarter approach?**
🎫 [Make sure to purchase your free ticket here!](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mono-vs-polyglot-brno-tickets-1027123824007?aff=meetup)
Our backend engineers will share their hands-on experience with using multiple backend languages within the same solution, highlighting the benefits, challenges, and trade-offs of a polyglot approach. Whether you’re curious about optimizing performance or streamlining your tech stack, this meetup will cover it all.
Expect deep dives into topics like enhancing the performance of Node.js applications with low-level language add-ons (Rust and C++), comparing the flexibility of Node.js with the structure and reliability of Go, and even our experiments with niche backend languages like Dart. It’s the perfect opportunity to gain insights and join the conversation about the future trends in backend development.
Whether you’re a single-language advocate or a multi-language enthusiast, this meetup will give you plenty of food for thought!
Program:
**🎙️Robert Rossmann: Oxidizing Node.js backends with a bit of Rust**
* In this presentation we will talk about integrating Rust into Node.js backends as native addons, why and when such an integration might make sense and show you some practical code samples implementing such integrations. To get the most out of this presentation it is recommended that you are comfortable reading basic Rust code but no hands-on experience is required.
**🎙️Michal Jarnot: All You Need Is JavaScript (\*and C++ addons)**
* Are you tired of other people telling you that JavaScript is slow? Have you tried writing CLI, web, server, mobile, desktop, Johnny-Five, or even your own VR app? Do you want to grow but don't want to leave the JavaScript ecosystem just yet? We're going to look at C++ addons. There's a whole ecosystem that we can explore and use to power our Node.js apps. And the best thing: If you don't know circuits going in, you will know circuits going out. Did I say circuits? I meant algorithms and multi-threading.
**🎙️Tomáš Kocman: From NodeJs to Go: A Journey Through the Ecosystem**
* Join us as we explore the transition from NodeJs to Go, diving into the tools and workflows that define both ecosystems. From compilation and transpilation to automated code formatting, linting, and robust documentation practices, discover how these backend worlds compare beyond just the code!
**🎙️Marek Burda: Dart: Is it new JS?**
* Do you know about Dart, a programming language developed by Google? Let me show you why I think it's a worthy challenger to JavaScript and let’s very quickly breeze through its inner workings, take a look at how it looks and compare it with JS and its uses.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and we’ll be kicking the event off promptly at 6:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to hang around until 10 p.m.
