We cordially invite you! November 7, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. will take place in the Považská art gallery in Žilina with a guided tour of the collective exhibition MULTIVERZUM, which brings an insight into the current forms of painting in the work of the youngest generation of artists.
The selection of the curators Jana Farmanová and Mira Sikorová-Putišová accentuates several themes present in the current painting, which can be observed in the individual sections of the exhibition space, but at the same time their borders freely blend. These are personal, intimate statements connected with identity, corporeality or personal mythology, topics dedicated to gender issues, also corresponding to feminism or issues of otherness. The paintings also report on the anchoring of the individual in society, on being as a form of social interaction, often associated with elements of alienation as a modern form of existentiality - they are visible mainly in figurative paintings and portraits. A significant part of the collection offers a current view of the landscape - urban and natural, and at the same time the utopias or dystopias that are related to it. The themes of the climate crisis and the end of the Anthropocene have also significantly penetrated the current painting, and similarly the collection makes visible the fact that painting today is also a political or committed gesture of the author. A wide variety of themes, authorial approaches, related manuscripts and iconography present contemporary young painting as a viable part of current Slovak art.
The exhibition is held in cooperation with the Department of Painting of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.
