Municipal Waste was formed in 2001 in Richmond, the capital of Virginia, USA. Their work is characterized by an extremely fast tempo, aggressive riffs and a strong influence of hardcore punk. Lyrically, the band often focuses on themes inspired by horror films, apocalyptic scenarios and dark humor, which gives their music a specific "party thrash" charge. With their energetic concerts and raw sound, they quickly built a reputation as one of the liveliest bands in their genre. The breakthrough came with the album Hazardous Mutation (2005), which secured them a cult status among fans of the new generation of thrash metal, and then with the album The Art of Partying (2007), which, according to the title, clearly defined the character of the band as a "party thrash" phenomenon. Musically, they draw on the legacy of classic 80s thrash bands such as D.R.I. or Suicidal Tendencies, but managed to revive this style with contemporary energy and constant concert activity, thanks to which they became popular festival stars around the world.
Their live performances are known for their intensity and chaotic atmosphere, when the band and the audience act as one big thrash whirlwind. Thus, during more than two decades of existence, Municipal Waste have won the position of one of the most fundamental bands of the modern thrash/crossover wave and continue to prove that thrash can be not only aggressive, but also fun and contagiously energetic.

Their speech is based on uncompromising impact and lyrics that reflect social decline and technological decay, which is also underlined by their visual presentation. Musically, the band is not afraid to work with disharmony and aggressive rhythmic twists that evoke a sense of constant tension.
