AZENHA is the duo by artists Cláudia Guerreiro and Rui Carvalho, whose work on stage is presented in the form of music and image; a concert closer to the performing and performing arts. Cláudia paints, creates color and paper scenes, and moves lights on glass, which is filmed and projected onto a screen. Rui's guitar is the voice of the story. Everything in real time.
His first homonymous creation told a story lost in Alentejo, around a house, around the drawings of the sculptor Jorge Vieira and his shared love with the sculptor Noémia Cruz. It was a story close to family and skin. The two artists found themselves in this love story to find another, also surrealist and abstract, that, in some way, also told their own.
The new staged show has been developed over the last year, in artistic residencies on the island of Pico and Coimbra, and are currently preparing a final residency in Lisbon, at ZDB 8 Marvila, after which they will make a public presentation of what will already be the final show.
The eternal search for inspiration now becomes the motto for this show, taking the form of an animal – perhaps a monster – that, on purpose or by chance, will have taught us how to dominate fire or invent time. At a time when we feel compelled to look at “reality” as the greatest enemy of the “dream”, this search, the same as always, takes on even greater meaning.
