Pocket Concert: Music of Guinea-Bissau at Heden Rossio

This special Pocket Concert celebrates Afro-Mandinga culture and the ancient musical traditions of Guinea-Bissau. In West Africa, griots are more than musicians — they are keepers of history, storytellers, poets, and guardians of ancestral memory. Through voice, rhythm, and melody, griots connect generations, passing down knowledge through sound.Demba Galissah — master of the kora and guardian of the griot tradition. Through the 21 strings of this ancient instrument, Demba shares music that carries the stories and spirit of West Africa.Demba Djabate — multi-instrumentalist, percussionist, and keeper of the griot legacy. From the village of Tabató, known for its deep griot roots, Demba brings the sounds of the balafon, djembe, and ngoni.Marinho Pina — musician, storyteller and percussionist, weaving music, words and rhythms to honour the griot tradition. Together, they are part of Afro Jams Lisboa, a movement celebrating the music of the African diaspora in Lisbon.
