About event
My first Nutcracker
A ballet performance for the whole family
by the Amsterdam Amateur Ballet.
It's Christmas Eve in a European small town in the middle of the 18th century. Clara and her mum are receiving guests for the holiday. Her mysterious uncle Drosselmeyer brings her a "magical" gift for Clara, a Nutcracker from his own making. Clara gets excited about the gift. At night, whilst sleeping the Nutcracker powers transport Clara to the Magical Forest. It starts to snow. Snowflakes are dancing around and invites her to the kingdom of Sweets. In the Kingdom of the Sweets, they are welcomed by the reigning Sugar Plum fairy and her cavalier. Clara is welcomed with international festivities. As the night goes Clara gets tired, and falls asleep in the kingdom of Sweet. As she wakes, she wonders…was this all a dream?
Choreography for 13 dancers, adapted from Marius Petipa by Julie Dupas, and Nadine Wolters–van´t Schip.
Length around 50min, no intermission
