About event
Get to know the traditions and customs of our ancestors during the summer solstice celebrations at the only evening event on St. John's Day, which will take place on June 20, 2026 at the SNM - Museum of the Slovak Village in Martin. You can experience the mysterious atmosphere while searching for treasure and learning about solstice traditions from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Traditions on the eve of the summer solstice celebrations will be performed by the Kýčera z Ochodnice folklore ensemble in the "Koliby" area. Performances will take place at 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
During the evening tours, visitors can learn more interesting facts about the summer solstice celebrations, learn why they used to burn Saturdays and how the youth prepared for this holiday.
You will learn why it was possible to meet supernatural beings during this night. How they could be recognized and how they could be defended against. For both children and adults, there will be readings of scary stories about supernatural beings.
People believed that it was during Midsummer night that the earth opened up and released its treasures. Many superstitions about the search for treasure are associated with the night of the summer solstice. You will be able to find such a treasure thanks to your skill and using magical clues even in the museum area.
You can learn more about the action and magical effects of herbs in the magic consultation room. Because they have the most power during Midsummer Night.
We recommend that visitors bring a flashlight or other light source with them. The program will run from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., entry to the area will be possible only until 9:00 p.m.
