About event
Záborský's classic dramatic work about politics, the struggle for power, intrigues, the pursuit of property and money, is a story about us - Slovaks. A comedy that not only criticizes, but also entertains.
Politics, struggle for power, intrigues, pursuit of possessions, shops and money - these are the priorities of one Slovak village called Chujava. The Kobozy family, their arrogant son Gejza aspiring to become mayor, the oppressed Chreňovský and the calculating Sajha, the unhappy widow Rojkovička and her young daughter Maňuša with an illegitimate child will be influential. We find all these characters not only in cottages from the nineteenth century, but also in the cultural center that survived the period of socialism and still stands today. The characters seem to have appeared here again and again for generations with the same story. They cannot interrupt it, because in its climax it carries only the germ of the beginning - as if it were an unstoppable theatrical performance, which the actors continue to play until the end of the world.
In Chujava, the election of the mayor is approaching. Koboza's father - the former multiple-time mayor, wants his son to take over everything so that his embezzlements from the past are covered up. However, he lacks the money to organize the campaign. The loan from the wealthy Sajha is complicated by the sudden arrival of a girl who also brings a small child with her - Gejza's illegitimate son. No one can afford such a scandal and that's why we have to figure out what to do with the kid. The huge conflict is dampened by the priest Kozák, who makes the whole thing more of a joke and suggests that the villagers play it for fun. He is the only one who sees the real picture of our society, comments on the events with the authentic statements of the author Záborský and thus reveals the characters of the characters of this panopticon.
Záborský's story and Nvot's update are a grotesque and ridiculous absurdity that is all too real.
Director: Jakub Nvota
Starring: Juraj Loj, Anikó Vargová, Martin Šalacha, Richard Autner, Peter Trník, Eva Sakálová, Kamil Mikulčík, Agáta Spišáková, Eva Mores
