🌿
What are we going through lately? How does sound pass through us, and what does it leave behind? Do we realize how big a source of sound pollution we are, and how can we respectfully keep silent about it? Who do we include under the term public, and who therefore has the opportunity to co-shape the so-called public space? Whose voice and actions are heard? And where will our attentively listening feet lead us?

We invite everyone who wants to discover the political and poetic potential of a sound walk and "deep listening" as a way of navigating the public space and as a tool for reshaping it and shaping relationships and cultivating respectful coexistence in it. 🌿

The first walk on Tuesday, June 23 from 18:30 will be presented by Mary C, and then artist and researcher Sara Pinheiro will lead us from deep listening to deep recording, so that the soundscape gradually reveals itself to us and we get to what we don't normally hear. We will be inspired by the ideas and practice of Pauline Oliveros and Murray Schaffer, and at the end we will expand our hearing abilities with special microphones. The walk will be conducted in English.

🌿 You don't need to have any previous knowledge and experience with sound.

🌿 The walk with an explanation in English and a practical part will last approximately 90 minutes and is suitable for everyone from 12 years old.

🌿 The contribution is voluntary.

🌿 We will meet at Přístav 18600. More information will be given to registered* by email.

🌿 With you: stronger, comfortable shoes and clothes suitable for less accessible terrain.

This year we will go on two walks together through the cracks of the soundscape of the city around Přístav 18600. The second will take place on September 22 and will end with a concert of experimental sets from field recordings.

What awaits us on June 23 with artist and researcher Sara Pinheiro:

In this soundwalk, we will approach our sonic environment from deep listening to deep recording, allowing the surrounding soundscape to unfold itself in time. The idea is to approach the space beyond what is immediately audible. For that purpose, participants will be first invited to practice their listening skills based on Pauline Oliveros's deep listening practice and on Murray Schafer's soundscape features. After walking across Přístav, we will finally listen with extended-techniques of field recording, namely via different types of contact microphones.

Sara Pinheiro is a sound-maker. For film and video-art, she does sound recording, editing, foley and mixing. In her solo practice, she makes acoustic pieces, usually for multichannel performances, radio broadcasts or installations. Her work crosses practices of sound design for film with concrete and acoustic music. It blends natural and artificial soundscapes via field recordings, foley practices and signal processing. She is a member of the live-coding group K-o-l-e-k-t-i-v and the noise trio SHLUK. She is also a regular collaborator of Synth Library and Arteacta, both in Prague. She facilitates workshops, soundwalks and listening sessions since 2012. Pinheiro is also the author of REGARDLESS, "Field recordings: a manifesto" and "Noise Pollution and Sound Beyond Sound" (with Shluk). In addition, she has put forward the idea of "deep recording" and of "the critical ear".
