About event
This time none other than Nelleke Noordervliet will be on the FlexPodium. The reason is her new novel, 'The Reign of the Happy', which was published at the beginning of September this year. In a Europe without a free press, a former journalist in the countryside tries to escape the imposed happiness of the regime. But resistance and moral choices cannot be avoided.
In a society where there has been no free press for ten years, we follow Sophie Roth, former journalist, who has exchanged the capital for a house in the countryside, far away from the false happiness that the new regime has forcibly spread. She wants to start over in the small community, but is met with suspicion and reluctance. When she comes into contact with the resistance, she is faced with a difficult choice: between violent action and suspicious aloofness. The novel 'The Reign of the Happy' gives us a painfully credible idea of what could happen if a democratically elected party takes absolute power in Europe and eliminates the opposition in all kinds of ways.
