About event
Figure skater Ondrej Nepela returns from the Olympic Games with a gold medal around his neck. The admiration of the fans and the Czechoslovak reality await him. A famous, sensitive and insecure athlete is looking for a way to a space where he can finally be himself.
The film charts a section of the life of figure skater Ondrej Nepela, who in 1972 returns with a gold medal from the Winter Olympics in Sapporo, where he achieved his greatest sporting success. Not only fame awaits him at home, but also the reality of the communist regime. Everyone treats him like a celebrity, but the sensitive Ondrej longs above all to escape from this unpleasant golden cage. He wants to live freely and in accordance with who he feels he is. However, at the last minute, he is denied the promised chance to go to the professional ice revue and is ordered to participate in the next world championship. Disappointed, Nepela must find new motivation and cope with the tragic death of her best friend, figure skater Hanka Mašková.
Ondrej Nepela is one of the biggest Czechoslovak sports legends. He won every imaginable award for his sports career and his life story is still a huge inspiration. In the film, viewers will see the main character played by Josef Trojan, his coach Hilda Múdra played by Zuzana Mauréry, and the role of Hana Mašková's fateful friend Antonia Formanová.
"With the film, we want to present the life story of an exceptional figure in sports history. The Olympic champion from Sapporo in 1972, figure skater Ondrej Nepela, is an inspiring role model even decades after his successful career. It is important for us and interesting for the audience to remember and present the stories of people who have become legends," adds the film's producer Ivan Ostrochovský. 2025
