At Late Harvest, we are fascinated by the connection to the history and roots of contemporary dance. We bring these ideas to awareness from different points of view. The ideas and work of our predecessors constantly fascinates us and that is why we are very happy to invite you to Bratislava for our performative lecture
ROOTS OF THE DANCE EXPERIMENT
25.11. 2025 at 7:00 p.m. to the LAB Theater
which will take place as part of the evening of the choreographic project of students of the Dance Theater and the performance of the Department of Dance Creation of VŠMU: ON and OFF - POCKETART: Treatment of Remembering – ALERTED,
The performative lecture is devoted to the post-modern era in dance, which brought about a transformation of the perception of dance, its forms and possibilities. The post-modern movement brings a new approach to art, reflects and is inspired by everyday life. Process, action, openness and indeterminacy are in the center of interest. It brings the everyday into art and art into everyday life.
Experiments and the courage to break established conventions are related to the 60s of the 20th century. and the movement had several leading personalities who influenced and still influence generations of dancers, e.g. Yvonne Rainer, Steve Paxton, David Gordon, Trisha Brown, Deborah Hay and others.
The lecture is based on the starting point of modern dance and the personalities who created it, and at the same time offers an experiment in the form of a performative lecture. It uses the space between the lecture with authentic video demonstrations, along with dance demonstrations demonstrating the principles and relationships of the topic. We use the original version of the performance "Tria A" (choreography by Yvonne Rainer), contact improvisation and formal compositional methods. Dance demonstrations are performed by Anna Sedlačková and Daniel Raček together with Michaela Mihaľa and selected students who will participate in thematic workshops.

The authors of the project, Anna Sedlačková and Daniel Raček, are long-time dancers and teachers of contemporary dance, with extensive experience in the field of improvisation, contact improvisation and post-modern compositional procedures.
The Roots of Dance Experiment project was supported from public sources by the Art Support Fund as its main partner.
