About event
On October 13th and 14th, 2025, a joint network meeting of the independent music scene will take place for the first time at bUm Berlin. It is organized by FREO - Free Ensembles and Orchestras in Germany, in cooperation with the DEUTSCHE JAZZUNION, PRO MUSIK - Association of Independent Musicians and the VEREINIGUNG ALTE MUSIK BERLIN e.V.

The two-day event combines a specialist conference, further training and networking. The aim is to meet the current challenges of the independent music scene, enable exchange and make political perspectives visible.
Program priorities
Conference - Impulses & Panels on current cultural policy topics, including
“The independent music scene and the federal government: expectations, impulses, reality” with cultural politicians from the Bundestag factions
“Classism in the independent music scene” (fishbowl discussion)
“Independence in the independent music scene - paths to legally secure work”
Further education – compact workshops at the Marketplace of Opportunities (45 minutes each):
The workshops address central topics for freelance musicians, including:
Art paid fairly: The negotiation 1x1 for self-employed musicians (Ella Rohwer)
Money and mental health (Franziska Lauter)
Your concerns, your impact. Political effectiveness (Boglárka Pecze)
Between stage & family: A space for exchange (Music Family Hub)
Sustainability in the independent music scene (Fine Stammnitz)
Ensemble management basics (Volker Hormann)
