About event
THE SECRET AGENT (O Agente Secreto) with Wagner Moura. Political thriller by Kleber Mendonça Filho. -- In cinemas from November 6th, 2025.
With THE SECRET AGENT, the multi-award-winning Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho presents his latest feature film after his international success with BACURAU (Jury Prize in Cannes 2019) and PICTURES OF GHOSTS (Brazil's Oscar entry in 2024) - an atmospherically dense political thriller that takes place during the last years of the Brazilian military dictatorship and immerses its characters in a... opaque web of surveillance, corruption and family alienation.
Brazil 1977: During the exuberant Carnival week, Marcelo (Wagner Moura), a man in his mid-forties, returns from São Paulo to the coastal city of Recife. There he hopes to see his son again. But his arrival does not go unnoticed - between celebrating crowds and omnipresent violence, Marcelo finds himself caught up in an increasingly dense web of surveillance, corruption and mistrust from which there is no escape. What begins as a personal journey turns into a dangerous game in the shadow of the military dictatorship.
In 1977, a technology expert flees from a mysterious past and returns to his hometown of Recife in search of peace. He soon realizes that the city is far from being the refuge he seeks.
