About event

The producer, singer and sound artist Never Sol releases her third full-length record Rest Your Wound On Mine, which she will christen on Friday, May 29 at MeetFactory in Smích.

The new album Never Sol comes almost ten years after the previous CHAMALEO and is the result of the gradual release of the forms and structures with which the musician has worked so far. The record, which was created over the course of five years, will be released by the Stoned to Death label.

Improvisation while playing live modular synthesizers played a key role in the shift to a more abstract, less song-like form. That Never Sol enabled deeper work with detail and shaping of sound. "In the end, I returned to the song form anyway, because it is natural to me. But this time, it is based on a process during which I gradually decomposed the compositions into a freer abstraction and put them back together again. Improvisation allowed me to react to time, space and listeners. I think I brought the material into a shape that has lasted."

The record was created mainly on Prophet 8, modular systems and other synthesizers in combination with vocal effects. Heavily processed vocals with significant distortion are accompanied by gradating synthesizer surfaces, which in the individual compositions come in with intensity transformed into the monumental sound of the album. The pilot single Accord, recorded during a residency in New York's Gray Nivas and accompanied by the vocals of American musician Monica Khot (Nordra), connects the rawness of sound with inspiration in natural processes.

Producer, vocalist, and sound artist Never Sol is releasing her third full-length album Rest Your Wound On Mine, to be launched on Friday, May 29 at Smíchov's MeetFactory

The new album arrives nearly ten years after Never Sol's previous record CHAMALEO and is the result of a gradual loosening of the forms and structures she has worked within so far. The record, developed over the course of five years, will be released via Stoned to Death.

Shifting towards a more abstract and less song-oriented form is a result of free improvisations on modular synthesizers. This allowed Never Sol to work more deeply with sonic details and sound-shaping. "I eventually returned to song form anyway, because it feels natural to me. This time though, it grew out of a process which gradually deconstructed the compositions into abstraction, and then reassembled them. Improvisation allowed me to respond to time, space, and the audience. I think it helped bring the material into a form that holds up."

The album was created primarily on a Prophet 8, modular systems, and other synthesizers, combined with vocal effects. Heavily processed vocals, rich in texture and distortion, are accompanied by swelling layers of synthesizers that build in intensity throughout the tracks, culminating in the album's monumental sound. The pilot single Accord was recorded during a residency at Gray Nivas in New York and features vocals by American musician Monika Khot (Nordra), connecting raw sonic layers with inspiration in natural processes. with a live show at MeetFactory on May 29. The evening kicks off with a solo set from Orinoko – a Prague-based experimental project oscillating between delicate noise and harsh ambient. Collages built from field recordings, driving beats, and pulsing waves of synthesizer circuitry. Orinoko is set to release their debut EP this June through the collective favu label.
