About event
As part of Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, New Store invites designer and weaver Pollyanna Moss to the Intertwined workshop. Come spin at the Nieuwe Instituut and learn all about the box charkha, which you use to spin human or animal hair.
The box charkha is a portable hand spinning wheel that became the symbol of self-reliance and economic independence during the Indian independence struggle. Pollyanna Moss has given the box charkha a new twist by spinning with material from people and their pets.
If your four-legged friend loses a lot of hair, take it to the workshop and turn it into beautiful textiles. Your pet's hair may be short, for example, it may come loose when combing. For human hair, a longer length is better, but short hair can also be used. The workshop is also accessible to participants who do not bring their own hair.
Box charkha expert Madhav Sahasrabudhe digitally participates in the workshop to give a demonstration.
About Pollyanna Moss
Pollyanna Moss is co-founder of WOLWEVERS and part-time manager of New Order Fashion LAB. She explores textiles by looking at new and traditional technologies, such as open source e-spinning and looms from the past. She wants to contribute to a regenerative fashion industry by producing wool on a small-scale basis.
Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week Rotterdam
During the Rotterdam Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week (DSFW) from October 9 to 13, Rotterdam will focus on sustainable fashion, with contributions from designers, artists and organizations from all over the city.
New Store
New Store explores how a store can ultimately be completely regenerative. New Store pop-ups function as test locations where designers' ideas and proposals are put into practice.
