NEXT Festival has been presenting and supporting the current work of artists from all over the world for 25 years, playing live and inspiring contemporary music without genre restrictions. The name symbolizes the combination of the terms "NEW & EXPERIMENTAL". The historic first evening of the NEXT Festival in the City Gallery of Bratislava will introduce three different approaches to contemporary music.
The American star of fringe music Spencer Clark will present, under the alias Monopoly Star Child Searchers, a pulsating percussive energy that interweaves elements of ritual music from Morocco, Saharan blues, rhythmic West African percussion, Japanese electronic fusion music and American DIY ambient. Czech artist Veronika Svobodová works with sand, wood fragments, and slate slabs, which she makes sound with movement and uses contact microphones and field recordings to create subtle sound experiences. A meeting of drums, marimba and vibraphone in one of GMB's baroque rooms will be performed specially for NEXT by the home trio Dalibor Kocián & Jozef Krupa & Lenka Novosedlíková.
