About event
▪ Independent cultural spaces are not only a venue for performative expressions or an exhibition space for artistic production. They serve as places of meeting, discussions, polemics, shared experiences and formation of communities. By their very nature, independent cultural and artistic institutions or organizations cannot exclude anyone, although they do not always deliver content intended for the widest audience. Also thanks to the support of diversity, they are often an island of freedom in an unfree society or in a society moving towards unfreedom.
▪ With the invited guest, we will debate how independent culture can become a good ally for LGBTI+ people cultural spaces and the environment to become safer and at the same time even more open, what this specifically means and entails. How to shape an inclusive society precisely through the tools of independent culture? We will also think about how to communicate this openness (safely and comprehensibly), both internally to organizations and institutions, as well as to the public. We will also look at how independent culture is affected by curtailment of the human rights of queer people and what, on the contrary, is the impact of attacks on independent culture on LGBTI+ people? The invitation to the debate was accepted by the rector of VŠVU Bohunka Koklesová, the director and director of FF Jeden svet Eva Križková and the artist Erik Hearty, who will enjoy the evening together with an acoustic concert after the debate. The discussion is moderated by Liberty Blake Simon.
