About event

Tender works | with Ivana Šáteková and Veronika Štaffenová from Živena

⇝ Next Saturday we continue with embroidery! We invite you to the next workshop from the Gentle Works series, where Ivana Šáteková together with Veronika Štaffenová from Živena will open a space for dialogue between tradition and the present, between the intimate gesture of handwork and its collective dimension.

In her work, Ivana Šáteková reacts to social events, political issues and social stereotypes - she transforms them with humor, irony and empathy, which are characteristic of her work. Through traditional techniques, she explores what embroidery can carry as a visual language - commentary, defiance, but also solidarity.

Veronika Štaffenová, one of the founders of the renewed Živena in Žilina, has been working on various types of embroidery for a long time - from cross stitch to counted thread to openwork. During her life, she led many handicraft circles in the school environment and later worked in Živina, where she spreads the tradition of handicraft techniques as a form of cultural heritage and generational connection.

We look forward to another Saturday with you.

⇝⇝ The new gallery project opens several layers of communication and connects several levels. Their central point is manual "gentle" - creative, but also routine - handwork, traditionally attributed mainly to women. However, how can its status change and what frameworks of interpretation does it acquire when it crosses the boundaries of the gallery, becomes part of its environment, a means and at the same time an element of gallery communication?

Gentle works are a link between manual "female" activity, artistic production and a collective event. At the same time, they are a story about the history of art, where the main actors are women.

The project is realized thanks to the support of the SPP Foundation.
