About event
His laugh as he lies buried in the Baltic Sea sand. The savings balance, calculated with the Aldi computer from the special offer. Tea sausage rolls, greased the night before for the car journey. Finger stains on glasses. The mint green morphine machine.
The father is still present six and a half years after his death: as images in the narrator's memory. As a genetic trace, in his hair, his skin. As a warm feeling. But some things evaporate, become blurred, because we forget, and others we never knew. What remains of a person after his death? What can we preserve when we tell about him? How do we continue to write it ourselves?
Nils Langhans was born in Velbert in 1990 and lives in Berlin. He was a finalist at the 31st open mike, a scholarship holder of the Prose Authors' Workshop at the Berlin Literary Colloquium and the 24th Klagenfurt Literature Course, and was on the shortlists for the Edit Essay Prize and the Word Reports Promotion Prize. At some point there always comes a sea is his first novel.
