About event
The theme of the evening is strengthening local democracy. We will discuss it on the basis of the brand new documentary "NL depicts" by IJburger Roland Duong, and with people from Natural IJburg neighborhood platform. Through the latter initiative, supported by the municipality of Amsterdam, IJburgers get more control over what is happening in their environment.
The short film "NL depicts" is about successful participation in the Netherlands. About places where citizens are heard and may participate in decisions about their living space. A good example of this is Set IJburg, a place for status holders and students who, thanks to the many years of efforts and involvement of many IJburgers, has grown into an important neighborhood community. Other participation cases are also highlighted in the film: in Oosterwold (Almere), residents get maximum autonomy about their living environment, while in Grenspark Groot Saeftinghe (Zeeland) agriculture, nature management and citizen participation go for a new balance between nature, agriculture and port. These examples show how citizens can achieve important issues in their living environment.
Together with special invited Dr. Abe Hendriks of Utrecht University-co-commissioner of the film-and with René Dalmeijer, chairman of Natural IJburg neighborhood platform, we will discuss how citizens can get more control in their neighborhood, and how Neighborhood Platform of course IJburg can support them.
