About event
The Museum of the Theater Institute has prepared a scenographic installation called The Presence of the Past for this year's Night of Museums and Galleries event (Saturday, May 23, 2026). As part of this event, the theater institute is also commemorating an important jubilee – the twentieth anniversary of the museum's founding.
The installation is a tribute to scenography, it presents its story in a cross-section from the beginnings to the present. Through a profile selection of theater mock-ups for productions, it invites visitors to take a look into the creative "kitchen" of stage designers. Different author's approaches and artistic styles bring a complex view of the direction and development tendencies of scenography in Slovakia. Authors of exhibited works such as Ladislav Vychodil, Jozef Ciller, Aleš Votava and Boris Kudlička are among the most important personalities in this field.
The plurality of artistic approaches is also characteristic of the collection of theater costumes. Visitors will certainly be interested in imaginative collages by Helena Bezáková, or a series of fine women's dresses inspired by the Art Nouveau period from the workshop of costume designer Marija Havran, or stylized costumes using digital printing by costume designer Petr Čanecký. Extremely rare are the custom-made tailcoat in which Peter Dvorský sang many concerts, the concert gown of the prominent Slovak soprano Edita Grúberová, or the costume of Hana Cigánová designed for the character of Cyrano, played by the actor Milan Lasica.
As part of the installation, there will be two commented tours with the curator Miroslav Daubrava. The first parade at 5:30 p.m. and the second parade at 7:00 p.m. The procession will last about 30 minutes.
The entrance fee for the event is €5.
Free entry: children under 12 years, people over 70 years and people with disabilities.
Free admission: if you show proof of an already purchased ticket from another museum.
