In 1927, at a time when the silent film is experiencing its peak, it comes evil. It is a paradox that at first glance the inconspicuous technical invention runs out almost all the achievements of the film language. Great directories are unable to cope with the new situation and the film is faced with a new beginning. The silver canvas has a word and the image followed by a servant. There are few who grab the sound as an achievement that unlocks new film options - from compositional (sound adds a flat image depth), through those who expand the world of the film (sound out of the picture) to the meaning overlap (in the form of audiovisual counterpunk) .

After its end, not only the local police, but also a group of criminal elements, who do not smell the increased activity of the police forces in their area, are not only able to smell. Lang's film, based on a real case, opens, among other things, the issue of justice carried out by the people.
