Presentation of the new book and discussion with the authors. The book Behind the Image - From Yellow to Red and Back Again is published for the current exhibition of the same name (December 4, 2025 – September 2, 2026).
The book is published in Slovak and Czech thanks to the cooperation with the Gočárová gallery in Pardubice, where the exhibition project will be repeated.
The program will include a short lecture by Šimon Chovan, co-author of the exhibition and graphic design author of the book, about his residency at MuseumsQuartier Wien.
A themed creative workshop will be prepared for children in the gallery studio led by author Katarína Vido.
The book, which does not differentiate between readers, stimulates the imagination of all of us. He accompanies us through the story of ocher color through the fairy-tale characters Po and Za by Katarína Vido. It connects the paintings of Slovak and Czech modern art with the works of the contemporary artist Šimon Chovan, but also with cave painting.
Is it even a book? A manual? Bedeker after collections? Or just a catalog for the exhibition? First of all, it is a new author's book that is searching for its own artistic essence. The textual content by the author Adam Galek, curator of the Turčianska Gallery in Martin and the author Tamara Kubečková from the Gočárová Gallery strives for comprehensibility but also avoids didacticism. Like the exhibition, this book should be primarily about experience and dialogue.
"Don't take children with you to the exhibition, they might laugh at you for not recognizing anything in the painting." They wrote Mikuláš Galand Ľudovít Full with Private Letters (1930). We recommend taking children with you. And before being ridiculed, read the book as soon as possible: Behind the picture - From yellow to red and back again!
Simon Chovan's residency project was supported by the Art Support Fund in the form of a scholarship from public sources.
