About event
Why does Žilina hum so much and how to compose a sonata from its sounds? Thanks to the Orange Foundation, Fero Király and Eva Vozárová (www.zdruzenie.ooo) prepared an interactive course intended for youth aged 15-25. It is focused on her musical creativity and linked to the development of digital skills and sensitivity to the sounds around us. The youth will experience their first sound walk, learn to record sounds and process them into a sound composition in the SonicPi programming language, and there will also be a final mini-concert where they will play their compositions to their parents and friends.
"Children can easily get to know the sound environment in which they live, understand it, collect sound material from it and compose their first composition according to the basic principles of musical composition within a few hours. They will learn to work with a new "musical tool" - the SonicPi programming language developed specifically for the purpose of creative development of digital skills in children and young people. No knowledge of music or ability to play a musical instrument is required from the workshop participants. On the contrary, we start from the idea that we all like music in its various positions, and that love for it is strengthened by the experience that we can create it, and that we can control what we traditionally call a musical instrument."
At the same time, we will talk about the concepts of acoustic ecology - an interdisciplinary field at the border of sound art, humanities and science, which explores the sounds of the world and through them the relationships between people and our surroundings.
< br/>
SonicPi was created at the University of Cambridge as a reaction to the new rules of education in Great Britain, where since 2014 programming is a mandatory part of the school curriculum. It is considered a skill that all students must master at least in the basics. This opened the door to innovative forms of combined teaching of programming and music, because it is in this field that such synergy is natural and engaging. It allows them to work with an instrument that most young people handle quite naturally today - the computer - and does not push them to master skills on acoustic instruments, which are both motor and theoretically demanding for children at the beginning, which often leads to demotivation and loss of interest in music .
What to bring:
– Your own computer with the free Sonic Pi program installed https://sonic-pi.net/
– Headphones (ideally not bluetooth, ideally not “plugs”)
– USB stick (recommended)
– Good clothing according to weather - part of the workshop will take place outside
How to to register:
- The fee is (thanks to the Orange Foundation, which helps us develop the digital skills of children and youth) 5 Euros, and it is free for members of the informal youth group Young Office Žilina. Thank you!
How long will it take:
– no less than four and no more than five hours
Dear Audience,
< br/>The management of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic is taking steps that destroy Slovak culture! Their powerful interventions and changes in laws threaten our functioning, but also the freedom and diversity of art. so that you are not indifferent. Follow current events, visit cultural spaces and discuss.
