About event

An interactive workshop focused on musical creativity linked to the development of digital skills and sensitivity to the environment around us.

Date Friday 24 October 2025
Time 09:00 – 12:00
Location ODC (Orange Digital Center, Legionárska 10, Bratislava)
Capacity: 18 places

For music teachers thanks to the support of the Orange Foundation, we offer a free course led by Fer Király and Eva Vozárová (www.zdruzenie.ooo).

They will introduce you to how to use the SonicPi digital tool in music teaching, as well as how to expand music education about the elements of acoustic ecology:

Fero Király is a musician, intermedial artist and teacher, works at VŠVU. Eva Vozárová is a sound researcher, performer and dramaturg. Together they founded and lead the art collective Združenie ooo and the annual intermedial event in the vicinity of Banská Bela and Banská Štiavnica JAMA.ooo.

"We will show you how to read the sound environment around us, understand it, how to collect sound material from it and use it to create music. We will introduce you to an open-source programming language SonicPi, which was created at the University of Cambridge as a reaction to the new rules of education in Great Britain, where since 2014 programming is a mandatory part of the school curriculum.

It is considered a skill that all students must master at least in the basics. This opened the door to innovative forms of combined teaching of programming and music, because it is in this field that such synergy is natural and engaging."

At the same time, we will talk about the concepts of acoustic ecology - an interdisciplinary
area on the border between sound art, humanities and science, which explores the sounds of the world and through them the relationships between people and our surroundings. Workshop participants do not need to know how to program.

What to bring:
- If you prefer, your own computer with the freely available Sonic Pi program installed. However, a PC is not a requirement, ODC has a room equipped with a PC
– Headphones (ideally not bluetooth, ideally not “plugs”)
– USB stick (recommended)
