Literary walks A2: City folklore, workers and bourgeoisie

At the end of the 19th century, Prague was massively growing and the whole society underwent stormy changes, which were also described in folk narratives. In a literary walk with Petr Janeček we will learn about the legends and ghost stories, especially from Podskalí. We will show what role they played in the symbolic struggle for public space between the middle layers and the working class. It will also be constructed of nationalist middle -class mythology and then a new phenomenon of bourgeois leisure time. Capacity of 25 persons.

The length of the route about 5 km. He currently works at the Institute of Ethnology of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague as an assistant to the Folkloristics seminar.
