About event
The recording from London's West End will show an extremely moving portrait of King Lear performed by the well-known actor Ian McKellen.
A contemporary, balanced and powerful retelling of Shakespeare's tender, violent, moving and shocking play, according to The Times, was directed by Jonathan Munby. The production received five-star reviews and was hopelessly sold out.
According to many, the best tragedy in history tells the story of two aging fathers. One is a king, the other his courtier, both have rejected their children who truly loved them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of ruthless ambition and betrayal that plunges their family and country into an aggressive power struggle with a bitter end.
