About event
Nick Dear wrote the screenplay for the adaptation based on Mary Shelley's famous gothic novel. Directed by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), Benedict Cumberbatch (Hamlet, BBC Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (How simple, Trainspotting). Both won an Olivier Award for it. The same award went to Bruno Poet for the best lighting design. The direct transmission to cinemas took place on 16/03/2011 from London's National Theatre.
Boyle's Frankenstein attracted the attention of all media mainly due to the unusual directorial principle, when two actors alternated in the main roles: Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. Nick Dear's screenplay is also original, telling the well-known story of Viktor Frankenstein from the point of view of the Monster he created. The game about a creature assembled from pieces of bodies and awakened to the cruel world of people with the help of very special chemicals takes place at the beginning of the 19th century.
The music and sound for the exciting performance was taken care of by the British dance legend Underworld, whose compositions appeared in all films directed by Danny Boyle.
